Golfing in the New Forest - From the Unique to the Picturesque to the Professional

The New Forest offers a great selection of Golf Courses for the beginner to the professional. Forest courses where you will have to dodge the wild ponies to country club style courses that will challenge the best golfers.

Here are a selection of courses on the Bramble Hill Hotel doorstep that will inspire you.

Bramshaw Golf Club – The Manor Course

The Manor Course is the newest course at Bramshaw Golf Club and was built in 1970. The course is one that holds a first class stamp offering gently undulating slopes and picturesque scenery. The fairways are of an excellent standard and test every golfer standing on the tee, as hitting the fairway is a challenge, even for the professional golfer. The high standard well manicured greens entice a good approach shot, followed by a fantastic putting experience. The course provides a tough challenge for any golfer as there really isn't an easy hole on the course, but if you are on your game a good score is on!

Bramshaw Golf Club – The Forest Course

Bramshaw Golf Club has the oldest course in Hampshire, the Forest Course which was built in 1880. This offers open aspects and rolling heathland with an ambundance of animals making an appearence. The fairways are individual with hollows and humps and meandering streams making this a unique task where your skill and judgement will be tested, but the outcome will be a very enjoyable golfing experience. Oh, and yes forgot to mention you will have to navigate the deer, horses and cattle that roam free across the course, yes a very new experience for you!

Paultons Golf Centre

Established in 1992 Paultons Golf Centre is a proprietary operated hybrid Golf Club with a refreshingly equal split of membership and Pay as you Play golf.

Located on the edge of the New Forest National Park, the clubhouse has fantastic views over the course and surrounding areas, and is widely regarded as one of the best year round courses in the area.

The Golf Facilities consist of the 18 hole Championship course measuring 6,238 yards and the 9 hole Par 3 course measuring 1324 yards, a floodlit driving range, pitching and putting greens, and the Crown golf Academy. Both courses are maintained by our experienced greens staff led by Course Manager Steve Gibbs. We are extremely proud that our courses are in excellent condition 12 months of the year, we have not had a temporary green in over 9 years.

New Forest Golf Club

The New Forest Golf Club began its history in the latter part of 1888, when a meeting of residents in and around Lyndhurst was called to try to obtain the permission of the ‘Commissioners of Woods and Forests’ for the right to play golf on the open heath.  Permission was granted for this and also to cut holes three inches deep and to roll the ground for a distance of five yards around each hole. Following this, another meeting was called on February 6th 1889 and it was unanimously decided to form a club, to be called the New Forest Golf Club.

The annual subscription was half a guinea and the headquarters was Glasshayes, which is now the Lyndhurst Park Hotel. Eight holes were built on the ‘Bench’ and ten holes within the Old Lyndhurst racecourse.
